My name is Kari, and I’d like to welcome you to my site! Let me tell you a little about myself.
I’ve always been drawn to the kitchen. The colorful ingredients, the smells that linger in the air, the tastes that dance on your tongue… really honing in on our five senses to create amazing things have always brought me joy. I mean, there’s a reason it’s called “Culinary Arts,” right?
My real passion in the kitchen, however, has always been baking. It started at a young age helping my mom mix together ingredients or frost the Christmas cookies, and it just bloomed from there. Since then, a lot of my focus has been refining recipes in the search for the perfect dessert. The challenge in that is not everyone likes their dessert the same way. For instance, I prefer a soft, chewy cookie while my husband likes thin and crispy cookies. And don’t even get me started on his (wrong) opinion about brownies with frosting! So to try to appeal to everyone, I started to turn my attention to flavor. Get the flavor right and the other preferences aren’t too much of an issue anymore.
While I may spend most of my time on baking sweet treats, I still have a family to feed. On top of having a large family of five, my son has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, which puts him on the autism spectrum. For those who are unaware, a common association of kids on the spectrum is being picky eaters, and my son is no exception! He hates anything green and really loves his carbs. In order to make sure he’s getting a well-balanced diet, I’ve had to learn to hide those awful, green foods where he can’t find them and still get him to eat his meal. The bonus is that this trick works for me and my other kids as well!
Figuring out what foods my kids will or won’t eat for the week is a hurdle all on its own, but let’s not forget the amount of time it takes to make a family meal. That’s why I try to cut as many corners as I can by using canned and packaged food alongside fresh meats and spices so as to not sacrifice the integrity of what I’m making. There’s really no need to make my own breadcrumbs if I don’t have to… ain’t nobody got time for that!
Over the years I have learned how to cook from different friends and family, tried and tweaked hundreds of recipes, and taken in all the tips I can get from those who have run the kitchen before me. All my time and energy so I can share it all with you! So come in, take a look around, and enjoy some quick and easy meals that will make your family’s bellies full and your heart happy.
